Working in Digital Age
The
digital photographic technology or process that I have researched is the Wi-Fi enabled
DSLRS. I chose this because there are so many perks to having this specific
camera. With this specific camera includes Wi-Fi. In other words, as stated “when
you use this camera you are able to transfer photos wirelessly from a digital
camera to a Web site or your computer.” So whether you’re inside or out, or
dong anything at all, you can simply transfer your pictures from your camera to
your computer or even your phone. Another perk about this camera is the fact
that it is so convenient. As stated in the video by Professor Nordell on “Working
in the Digital Age Part 1” he
mentions the fact that with the digital cameras, you have the opportunity to
take multiple amount of pictures within your memory card. And if you do run out
of space your able to just quickly click a button on the camera and switch in a
new memory card that has space and that’s it. On top of those cards, you can
always reuse them. This to me is a very excellent camera because you can easily
bring this with you anywhere. It’s light and easy to really have it with you
most of the time. Whenever you come across a certain event, or situation you
can easily whip out your camera and capture some images right then and there.
This
digital photographic technology has affected photojournalism and
photojournalists in ways that make it easier for them to create their specific
content. In other words, it is not so much of time consuming but rather saving
time. Within changing the world of photojournalism and photojournalists it has
affected our generation today in ways us human beings can create an even higher
type of technology. For instance with the drone it stated “Technology
have been due largely to two entirely separate phenomena occurring at the same
time.” To put simply, it has taken techniques of photography from decades
ago up until now. Blending ideas, to end up creating such high tech quality inventions
within photography.
In
comparison to within one of the pre-digital technologies that I have chosen
within module 4 is completely different. The Leica 35mm cameras you can say
includes a lot more steps. In the video made by Professor Nordell titled “Working
in the Digital Age Part 1” he states that you have to unroll the film to
get back into its spool. That once you also finish he space within the first
roll, you have to take that out and insert a new roll film and make sure it’s
rolling. This obviously takes up more time then the digital cameras because if
you were in a situation where you had to capture a certain event you have to go
really fast so you won’t miss anything that you’re trying to get. Within that
whole pressure you could also get into a lot of pressure if so you have someone
who’s depending on your skills. Although
it took so much effort to using these specific cameras it became one of the
best most popular cameras used. Including Gordon Parks who was a
photojournalist. He specifically states “I saw that
the camera could be a weapon against poverty, against racism, against all sorts
of social wrongs. I knew at that point I had to have a camera.” This
clearly portrays the fact that being a photojournalists have really helped him
within his own life. Especially with the struggles of life and what he goes
through being an African American man. His own knowledge and experience of
being a photojournalists helped allowed him to really become the voice for others
who weren’t able to speak for themselves.
